Wenshuihe Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Central-westernmost Hubei. The Wenshuihe Fm was named by Li Quan, Leng Jian et al. in 1987. The type section is at Tiechanghe-Qiaodonggou, Tianjiashan Medicinal Herbs Farm, Shennongjia Forest District, Hubei Province. Upper-middle formation (8 of 11 in Lexicon) of Shennongjia Gr.

Lithology and Thickness
Lower part of Wenshuihe Fm is dominated by basalt, intercalated with dolomitic limestone, limestone and basalt, which formed an obvious eruption cycle. The basalt is dominated by stratified basalt, amygdaloidal basalt and scum basaltic lava, intercalated with brecciated basalt. There are also grey, yellowish red thin-bedded muddy limestone, carbonaceous siltstone and tuff bands. Middle part consists of greyish limestone, dolomitic limestone intercalated with thin-bedded carbonaceous, siliceous siltstone and stromatolite-bearing dolomitic limestone, siliceous dolomitic limestone, carbonaceous dolomitic siltstone and lenticular conglomerate; Upper part is purple-red thin-bedded tuff sandwiched with muddy dolomite. The Wenshuihe Fm is 1877 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The base is in conformable contact with the underlying Yemahe Fm
Upper contact
The top is conformably overlain by the Shicaohe Fm
Regional extent
Central-westernmost Hubei. The formation is seen both in Shennongjia Forest District and Xujiazhai, and Luohanling of Dahong Mountains.
